Steve Collins is a former professional boxer, known as the “The Celtic Warrior”. He is the former WBO middleweight and super middleweight champion.

Collins began his professional career in America, and lost two world title fights on points. It was not until Collins reached his 30’s that he fulfilled his potential. Having competed against the best boxers on both sides of the Atlantic, Collins tends to be linked more to the era in the UK when there was a great rivalry between British boxers Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn. He fought and beat both, twice.

In 1998 Collins appeared in the film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (directed by Guy Ritchie) as a boxing gym bouncer. In 1999 he made a cameo appearance in “Sweetest Thing”, a music video by U2.

Collins played a Legends game between Celtic and Manchester United at Celtic Park on 9 August 2011 with the likes of Packie Bonner, Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton, Neil Lennon, Alan Thompson, as well as a host of other former Celts, and other celebrity fans to raise money for Oxfam’s East Africa Famine Appeal.

On 15 January 2013, at the age of 48, Collins announced plans to fight his longtime nemesis Roy Jones Jr. He went on to appear in a number of exhibition bouts in preparation for the proposed Jones fight.

In 2017 Collins joined the 4th Regiment Royal Military Police in London where he had been living for the previous 20 years.

His brother Roddy Collins is a former professional footballer and now manager.
