#OTD in 1971 – Variously known as Decimal Day, Decimalisation Day and D-Day, the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland decimalised their currencies.

After months of preparation, Ireland’s currency finally changed from pounds, shillings and pence to a new decimal currency. Decimal Day as it was known, took place on 15 February 1971.
