Legend has it that St. Brendan ‘the Navigator’ sailed here from Dingle in the 5th century, scaled the cliffs, found a couple of dying pagans and anointed them – the first Christian converts on the island.
It is known as Tobar Olla Bhréanáin, the well of St Brendan’s anointing. There is a leacht or altar built around the well and to the right is a stone inscribed with a cross.
Note | as the well is located in a bog, wellington boots may be necessary to access the site!
